MARTA COLOMBO: PIAZZA GAE AULENTI

Marta Colombos (born 1984 in Merate, ITA) artistic research deals with space, spatial experience and architecture. Within she focuses on the dialogue between the historical and the contemporary and translates multiple techniques like painting, drawing, printing, analogue and digital photography into expansive installations.

Are visual traces of history able to implement critical and creative thought processes? How does the dialogue between historical and contemporary architecture function? These and more questions are asked by Colombo during her research journey through Milan where she will visit the Garibaldi quarter: an area that is not only characterised by its historical buildings, but also had its skyline drastically redesigned during the Expo in 2015: the massive building project “Porta Nuova” induced a radical confrontation of classic as well as modern materials and shapes that Colombo wants to examine.
