ANDREAS GOLINSKI: ANNI DI VETRO
Andreas Golinski (born 1979 in Essen, GER) sets out on a search for traces with his, often minimalistic, works. By using industrial materials like concrete and steel, he focuses on incidents from the past that are inseparably connected to the scene where they took place and its architecture.
For the RuhrResidence 2016 he investigates the Italian poet Alda Merini (1931 -2009, Milan) who underwent psychiatric treatment over and over. During her seven-year-long stay at the Paolo Pini mental hospital in Milan, she decided to quit literature and only began seven years later (1979) with her work on her poetry collection ‘La Terra Santa’ which is considered her masterpiece to this day. Golinski does not want to simply recreate the physical space, furthermore he wants to create a composition that leans on the suggestiveness and the voice of a person that made the alienating experience of going through detention. The research in Milan should serve as a base for a work of art that is external – the asylum with its rooms, persons and voices – as well as internal – the memories, feelings and emotions of the narrator.
