HEIKE KANDALOWSKI: MY FOCUS IS SO STRONG

Heike Kandalowski (born 1985 in Essen, GER) deals within her photographic and installation works with her own role as a photographer. Confronted by the sensitive equilibrium between commercial and artistic work, this balancing act leads to uncertainty on both sides.

Between artist and entrepreneur, Kandalowski searches for motifs and opportunities to free herself from the dominant pressure: while travelling, material occurs from a situation without depending on a specific reason and therefore free from obligation. The trip to Athens, made possible by the RuhrResidence, confronts this aspired freedom with the factual constraints of the local societal change. A subsequent exhibition of these “holiday pictures” leads to a shift in context which reflects, on an additional level, the topic of “work”.
