Yuraq Janka

In his interdisciplinary and transmedia work, Alexander Luna (*1978 in Lima, Peru) addresses the consequences of climate change. In the Anthropocene, an age where mankind itself has become the greatest geological factor, who bears the responsibility?

In the Peruvian region of Huaráz, Luna cooperates with climate activists, glacier researchers, historians and other scientists to work towards climate equity. This project is inspired by mountain guide Saúl Luciaon Lluya’s lawsuit against the energy corporation RWE in 2015, which set a precedence. The suit demands compensation payments to protect the residents of the Peruvian Andes from the climate-change-induced glacial melt by means of a dam. After the suit was turned down, Lliuya filed an appeal, which will be heard at the Higher Regional Court in Hamm.
