Decommissioned

Sound installations with electroacoustic compositions are Denise Ritter’s (*1971 in Rodalben) profession. They are based on audio recordings of real acoustic situations like Field Recordings and Soundscapes, and oftentimes have strong locality associated with them. One of her focal points is the examination of (socio-)historic aspects and cultural landscapes of coal mining or the iron- and steelworks industry – especially in regard to individual and societal placing.

A topic more current than ever, now that Germany is set to say its final goodbyes to the mining industry in late 2018, when the last remaining coal mine in the Ruhr area will be shut down.To find out what happens to the identity of a region without its formerly defining structure, Ritter will interview people and landscapes of the Saarland, where the mining industry was shut down as early as 2012.
